The media were just delighted as they rushed to "break" this story but really, come on folks -- there is no reason at all for Trudeau to "step down" right now, not just before the US election, 3 weeks away. But there is all the reason in the world for him to stay the course until he sees what will be happening to our largest trading partner.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will face mounting pressure from his caucus this week to step down from the leadership of the Liberal party.A group of backbench MPs, primarily from Atlantic Canada and southwestern Ontario, are in discussions to formally release an ask for the prime minister to consider the future of the Liberal party in making a decision about whether to stay at the helm of it....CTV News spoke to 24 Liberal MPs Friday, about half of whom said they were aware of a so-called letter circulating but had not put their name to it. Half a dozen of the MPs said they had heard "about 30 people are signing it" but had not seen the signatures themselves. Three MPs told us they could only speak for themselves but would support the prime minister re-considering his bid to lead the party into the next election and another three MPs said it was "news" to them the letter existed. Each MP requested anonymity out of concern of reprisal for speaking out. Many told CTV News the Prime Minister's Office has taken a harder line on MPs leaking to the press as of late.
Not to mention that BC and Saskatchewan and New Brunswick are in the middle of provincial elections right now too.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responds to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration on the campaign trail that he’s going to renegotiate The U.S.-Canada-Mexico free trade deal. We literally have the progressive dream of a nation in full effect with a surging economy and vitals but we’re so arrogant and stupid as progressives to want the PM out at this point in a minority? We deserve everything we get if we do that.

I find it strange that the Liberals have been 2nd to the Conservative for an entire year

Now all of a sudden - with good economic news making headlines - the Liberals are now THIRD behind the NDP
Bad economy Libs 2nd - Good economy Libs 3rd
That doesn't make sense @Red_Toryism
This story was dropped tonight for that reason. @HelloStephano summed it up very good that these are Nervous Nellies. And Poilievre wants an early election because he wants to be in office when the good news gets better. The media knows that.

Timing is everything, and I agree, the current moment is not right. . Jr. is avoiding lame-duck status (like Biden's recent manoeuvres) before a walk in the snow.

ReplyDeleteTiming is everything and there will never be a time when lil pp le pire is more than a lame duck rotting around Canadas neck.
Article is good and timely. What is wrong with the brains of these alleged dissatisfied M.Ps. who want the Liberal Party to dump Trudeau.
ReplyDeleteMost of them rode into Parliament on Trudeau's coat tails and they've stayed in their jobs because of Trudeau. Now because some say Trudeau is no longer popular and may loose the election to PP they want to dump him in favour of any one who might help them remain in their nice pensioned jobs. Liberal M.P.s who want to dump Trudeau: Please note if Trudeau isn't the party leader, there is a good chance you won't be in your job either. If Trudeau is not leading the election, who will? Who would voters consider as P.M.? Who in the Liberal Party has what it takes to be recognized by the electorate and has the capacity to lead the party to another win? Given the next federal election is sooner -- about a year away, the Liberals do not have the time to go through a party leadership convention, select a new leader, introduce him to the voters, get the rest of the Party on board, ensure the big donners continue to donate.
The Conservatives will use the time to campaign, make promises, tell their version of the truth and remind voters that the Liberals are in such a disaray they can't even decide on a party leader. Elect a new leader and then expect them to "fix" the party, won't help the party get elected. The new leader between party infighting and fighting an election will cause the new leader to be gone with in a very short time period.
If the party is going to loose the upcoming election, then try winning it, if to no avail, pick a new leader at your leisure, introduce them to the voters, let them get their legs under their seat and establish themselves. It will give the Liberals 4 years to raise funds, settle down, etc and perhaps win the election after this one.
My take on this sudden quest to remove Trudeau, might have more to do with a one or two MPs ambitions and nothing to do what is best for the party or country.
Canada had two terms of Harper and his side kick PP. We do not need another week of them let alone 4 years. Please do not forget one of the first things Harper and his side kick PP did upon taking office was to defund the women's organizations in Canada in receipt of federal funds; tried to appoint a Supreme Court Justice who wasn't meeting the requirements; passed 9 pieces of legislation which Harper was told were in violation of the Constituion. He and his majority passed them any how. A few nice lawyers challenged them in the Supreme Court of Canada and won,. All of Harper and PP's legislation was not upheld. All 9 violated our Constitution. Do we really need a government which violated the Constitution 9 times? Have a look South of our border and we can see the results of people ignoring their Constitution.
The world is entering a phase where alliances will be important, either militarily or economically. Canada will need a P.M. Cabinet, and M.P.s who can represent Canada at an International level. PP doesn't have the experience or knowledge or the personality. There is nothing about him which will impress leaders of other countries or ensure other leaders and think before they take a run at Canada.
I don't belong to either the Cons or Liberals and haven't voted for either of them. I do recognize the social legislation which has been passed over the decades was passed by Liberal governments with the assistance of the NDP in some cases.
