Walking away from Trump's America

Well, I don't know if this feeling is just my own, or something others share.
But I realized today that I just don't care what Donald Trump does anymore.
In his first administration, every day there was a "he said WHAT??" news story and a "he's really THAT STUPID???" analysis story, and it was just exhausting.
This time, everybody already knows he is a stupid, cruel, ignorant, and violent man, profoundly undeserving of the office to which Americans elected him. He will continue to be an asshole, his administration will be a shitshow, and millions of Americans will suffer because of it, including the people who voted for him.
But I just can't care anymore.
So I have unsubscribed tonight from several substacks and columns. It doesn't really matter to me who the new Secretary of State might be, nor am I interested in Trump's pick for chief of staff or attorney general or head of the CIA any of the other make-weights and incompetents and grifters who will foul his administration. Obamacare repeal, tarriffs and tax cuts for the rich will mash the American economy. Hurricanes and fires and floods will strike with escalating fury and the federal government won't send help anymore. No point in getting outraged about any of it. So it doesn't matter to me anymore whether the Democrats keep the House (likely not) nor do I care whether scattered American mayors and governors will fight the good fight against Trump - maybe they can do something, or maybe they'll just get themselves arrested for not bending the knee.
So tonight I'm walking away from Trump's America. The country I care about is Canada. And the issues that concern me now are how our country can survive the end of American democracy.
Posting about all of this will be quite enough to keep me busy. In fact, there will likely be very little else of greater importance over the next decade than this battle all Canadians will have to fight -- to stand on guard for Canada, and to keep our Canada glorious and free.
I'm glad that the Trudeau government is already on it: Small rebellions will matter too: In the United States, it's already just too sad: And the Left is already saying "good luck with that".

Excellent. And, I totally agree with your thoughts on following anything to do with Trump anymore. It’s exhausting and I no longer give a f@#k. Let’s focus on our great country of Canada.

BTW - overall voting was DOWN in this most important US election in generations. Trump got about the same number of votes as last time. Harris got 11 million less than Biden. How did this happen? Apathy? Voter suppression.

" I just don't care what Donald Trump does anymore. "
Right. Works well until the pictured dumpster hits. ;-)

Stepping away from all the punditry about what Trump will do is a good thing, and it's something I've done myself. Trump is an erratic pathological liar who's easily manipulated. His mental decline seems to be accelerating, all of which complicates predicting what he'll do. One thing is clear to me though, America is not ready for a woman president. Trump has only lost to a man.

Although I have long been a news and political junkie, I have temporarily stopped watching my nightly fix of American news via NBC. For the sake of our mental and spiritual health, I think we all need a break from the American madness.

Thanks for all the comments -- and Anon, I appreciate what you mean about the American dumpster fire coming into Canada. I guess that's what we will all still have to watch for.

You are definitely on to something there. since the election I've started thinking along those lines because watching or listening to American news about trump is just to mentally stressful. Its not going to help the situation, its not going to change the situation.
The Americans did this to themselves. Now they can learn to live with it or die because of it.
Certainly agree Canadians are better off on focusing on our own country, We still have a chance to maintain our country more or less as it is. We ought not to sit around and think it couldn't happen here because we already have seen what Smith in Alberta is proposing.
Having heard from adults, when I was a child, what happened in WW II, it has been pretty clear to me, even as a kid, things can change quickly and you can go from being exempt from all sorts of things to running for your life and if you did not run, you died. Reading history didn't hurt either.
So good idea!

I expect that Canadians will fall into line with the election of 'lil pp le pire and the ensuing unravelling of our status worldwide and decline in domestic standard of living. You are the "elite" if you understand the consequences of policy . The common man who "feels" or '"believes" or "thinks" or whose gut "opinion" is in direct opposition to the science and math and with the political mental depth of F**K JT on a Canadian flag will prevail.
Canadians will soon amaze you at how brain dead they are too (If your not amazed now with Moe, and Dani and Dougie and the series of Reform/Alliance/ Con clowns starting with Harper and down the line to pp); how quickly empathy is abandoned; how shocked they are when they realize those cuts and reversals apply equally to them.
My go to line is "You didn't watch Handmaids Tale did you?" Hockey that night right? Bread and circuses.

More fun news
If you are playing end times, fulfilment of revelations , I.D. the AC and Whore of Babylon bingo then the wounding the beast in the head and a "miraculous" cure, the trump "win" and general moral/ monetary confusion of this end times election and that world wide effect is really filling in your card. Just a few more killings of end time saints and wholesale persecution of the innocents (please include the environment in this thinking) and a couple of other signs and there will be full cards
and winners!!
I know ... deluded fake news .... we never saw that coming :(
and the real huge joke is we were told that we would sleep we would never "see" it coming. Busy doin' other stuff ...
Revelations 16:15), Behold, I am coming like a thief ! Blessed is the One who stays awake,
Ok I' going back to my Buddhism and cat and yard work and my "be in the world but not of it" introversion. I have today and no real future here is all.
