You can't repeatedly attack another nations economy and threaten their sovereignty without long-term repercussions. We're long past any healing at the Midterms and even after he and his are gone. Think decades, not years, before Canada will trust the US again; at least beyond a one-on-one level.

He transformed Canada from a country that quietly absorbed punches into one building submarines, choosing Swedish surveillance aircraft over Boeing, and committing 5% of GDP to defence.
He transformed the most popular politician in Alberta into a Liberal named Mark Carney.
Yes. Transformational. Accurate.
Danielle Smith went to Nashville last week. Two months before the Alberta sovereignty referendum question. While Carney sits at 85% national support for his trade decision. While the investment flows in and the ports go up and the submarines are ordered and the icebreakers are being built with Canadian steel.
She went to Nashville to have good dialogue.
The conservative instinct throughout all of this — accommodate, don’t provoke, wait it out, the relationship is too important — was always premised on Trump being a rational actor who would eventually respond to normal diplomatic signals. Canada tried that for decades. It’s why we still don’t have a softwood lumber deal.
Carney didn’t wait. He named the rupture. He restructured around it. And Albertans — even Albertans — are with him.
The question the referendum is supposed to answer is whether Alberta wants to separate from Canada. The question it’s actually answering is whether Albertans want to be part of what Canada is building, or proxies for the people Canada is building away from.
The polls suggest they already know...
