Harper just doesn't get it
Harper should have met with Spence immediately, nipping her movement in the bud. Doing so now will be deemed a climb-down. Nevertheless, he must do so. The alternative — to allow this woman to put her life in jeopardy, and perhaps die, for the sake of preserving political pride — cannot be contemplated. The parallel I am remembering now is Cindy Sheehan -- George Bush came out of their 2005 confrontation looking cowardly and weak, and then Hurricane Katrina finished him off.

Why Harper? Because she demanded it? She's refused meetings with govt ministers who can actually help her but has taken meetings and done photo ops with Justin Trudeau who cant and has no idea how to help her. There are over 250 Native claims ongoing right now in Canada, settlement claims, land claims and reserve claims, and dozens have been solved and dozens more will be solved and all of them without the PM being involved. Do you people actually think the PM has some kind of magic wand? Every year the Govt of Canada under Liberal and Conservative rule solve Native Claim issues through negotiations by the Ministers and by Public Servants. "Demanding" to meet with the PM and the GG borders on insanity only because, they are not the people who can help. I've read the comments on the CBC, The Star and the Globe and am astonished with the support Mr Harper has from a normally unsupportive audience. Mr Harper cannot be blackmailed into this meeting, and, the next Liberal PM should never be blackmailed into any meeting as well. Its just wrong.

Theresa Spence is on less of a hunger strike and more of a diet. I'll start to worry about her health when she gets down to one chin.

The people of Attawapiskat, have been ignored for years. The children in Attawapiskat were on TV, pleading for a real school, a very long time back. They have to keep their winter jackets and mitts on, to try and keep warm in their ice cold portables.
Harper's x-mas interview? He declared himself a devout Christian. When Harper was Policy Chief for his, Northern Foundation Party of 1989, he was linked with Christian Fundamentalists. I have no idea, what kind of a religion that is?
Harper is giving Canada to Communist China, along with the resources and the resource jobs. Harper's omnibus bill has permitted, China to sue any Canadians getting in China's way. China sued in BC, to take the mining jobs.
Harper's omnibus bill C-45, permits Harper to pollute every waterway, kill off the fish and destroys the F.N. hunting grounds.
Harper as a devout Christian? He doesn't have a decent bone in his body. Harper has no ethics nor morals, what-so-ever.

It is not blackmail. Spence is looking for respect. Without her hunger strike, the media and the government would have continued to ignore her and the issues of Aboriginal Canadians.

What "hunger strike"? She's eating fish broth and vitamin supplements, and is therefore in absolutely no danger of starving. Plus she's been caught going to *a hotel* now (for a shower and a lie-down, apparently), so she isn't even really living in a tent anymore.
The majority of the public are either laughing at her or simply ignoring her, and they support Prime Minister Harper for not playing this silly game.
