Long threads: best baseball announcers, North Carolina angels, hopeful happenings, boys will be boys, and some really big things

Here are some long threads that I liked.
This is a lengthy post because I am including many of the tweets from these threads -- a reader told me once that people who aren't on X anymore aren't allowed to read their posts now.

So first up, with the baseball post-season underway, here is a long thread about great baseball moments as described by great baseball commentators - such masters at creating verbal pictures. And at the best in my time was, of course, Vin Scully.
Some incredible tragedies from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. But here is a thread about the contributions of hundreds of ordinary people trying their best to help: If you're feeling sorta discouraged, here's a thread of great stories for you: I don't know why this thread is hilarious, but really, it is...(click to embiggen the photos) And these are big, really big....

Thanks for the uplifting stories. But that "loving single dad" adopting a girl with Down syndrome sounds like a massive child safeguarding failure to me. It's well known that pedophiles will go to great lengths to access victims (hello Catholic church). So, putting a child, especially one with an intellectual disability, in the care of an unrelated single man is beyond belief.

Just this week, a single man in France was charged with the rape and torture of a severely disabled 4-year-old girl he was fostering. This pillar of the community and former political candidate was sharing images of the abuse with other pedos! I know, I know, not all men. But since when has the safety of children not been of paramount concern?

Yes, this possibility occurred to me as well -- but isn't it sad we have to be so suspicious these days.
