Relatives of Canadians detained by ICE in the United States say they're furious and frustrated by the treatment of their loved ones and the battles they're having to fight for even the most basic information.I haven't seem any other numbers since.
Global Affairs Canada said it's aware of roughly 55 Canadians in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, though it said that the numbers can fluctuate.
Who are these people? What does the US think they have done? Or, actually, who cares what they did. What can we do to help them?
Its not even clear if Canada has a complete list -- all we have seen is scattered, tragic stories from families trying to get their relatives home. And apparently no one can tell them where their loved ones are, and why they haven't already been deported. Canadian media have been covering the individual stories, but haven't pulled it all together.
I think its time Canada created a "Homecoming Czar" with authority to fly our people back from whatever hellhole ICE has shoved them -- this seems to be a terminology that Americans respect, and the media love to talk about "czars" too.

I think you're on the right track here. We should have a Special Advocate Legal Team (SALT) that responds to reports of Canadians in ICE detention and goes to bat for them in US courts.
Global Affairs says they're aware of 55 Canadians in ICE detention, but it would be good to know what these numbers looked like under Biden. In other words, how many of these cases consist of routine law enforcement against Canadians who overstay or smuggle and how many are something else, like the guy fishing on the Canadian side of the border?

So it is all horrible and americans are untrustworthy down to a child but things are always exactly right ...considering what came before.
Did nobody pay attention when people including Canadians were renditioned ...with the help of the Canadian government....by the u.s. post 911?

Some of this falls under , there isn't a suffering tourist trap in the states whose owner voted trump.
Why would you even fish close to the border alone in a boat with ice cruising around?
Aren't there always a few that never want to evacuate a fire or a hurricane and then need a helicopter? A bunch of this is the same.

OK, exercising caution is one thing. I certainly wouldn't advise people to go INTO the United States. But I don't think we can normalize American official thugs coming into CANADIAN waters to grab people. That should be an international incident. It's arguably an act of war. We should be telling them next time their goons come into our country without leave, they're the ones who will end up in a cell.
