...No one who has not lived in a small town like Tumbler Ridge can understand how completely connected everyone is. It is not an idealized connection; it is one born of constant encounters with the same people over the years.I expect there will be memorials across Canada in the coming days.
..Then the massacre happened.
...everyone knows every victim.
Now the world is going descend on the town via the media. This is a town that never has a TV camera in it, but will have dozens or more of them today. Every motel room will be filed by the media. Every seat in every restaurant will be filled by the media.
The young waitresses who have had friends murdered will be needed to serve the media at the restaurants where they work part-time. It is a small town, so yes, they will go to work. Tumbler Ridge, during this shock and grief, will extend hospitality to all the media arriving.
If you have not lived in a small remote resource town for at least a decent number of years, there is no way you can understand the utter living hell this massacre is for the people in Tumbler Ridge. Whatever you can possibly imagine, multiply the horror by a hundred.
Tumbler Ridge is forever changed, and no one is going to really come to help them, it is one thing you come expect living in a small resource town, government will not be there for you.

Yes, there was more news going on today -- for example, a vote in the US House of Representatives about the Canadian tariffs - but I just don't have the heart to focus on any more politics tonight.No need to look at the comments section anywhere there's coverage of the Tumbler Ridge shooting unless you need wall to wall transvestigation and false flag school shoot denialism.

The CBC's coverage of the Tumbler Ridge shooting is a gross violation of journalistic standards. Take this piece entitled "What we know about the teenager behind the Tumbler Ridge, B.C., mass shooting," for instance. We're told in the second paragraph that "RCMP identified Jesse Van Rootselaar as the shooter who killed eight people the day before — including her mother and stepbrother — before turning a gun on herself." The article continues on describing the shooter as she. It's not until the sixth paragraph that we find out that RCMP also said the shooter was male, "the 18-year-old was assigned male at birth, but began transitioning to female about six years ago."
The RCMP is misinforming people here since male and female refer to biological sex, and a person's sex never changes, whatever one may think of gender identity. But, the CBC knows perfectly well that most readers don't read the whole article, so the convention is to explain the bones of the story in the first four paragraphs. Both RCMP quotes should be together in the second and third paragraphs so readers aren't misled.
The way the CBC tells this story is dishonest and deliberately hides the truth about this shattering event. Murdering innocent bystanders to ease ones own suicide is quintessentially male behaviour. The national broadcaster has no business manipulating people into believing women are as violent as men. In the end, the CBC's own credibility suffers - if you're going to lie about something as fundamental as sex, how can people believe you about anything else? Whether you lean left or right, you deserve accurate and honest reporting of facts.
Rant over, back to the Olympics.
