Sunday Funday: Funny posts about Canada, ETTD, sports, academics, and more, plus Carney hat-trick TrumpWatch, Animal Crackers

First, good items about Canada
Todd Maffin does a "heritage minute" about Heritage Minutes

Next, more #ETTD (Everything Trump Touches Dies):
While they loot the country, Trump's staff is keeping him busy and distracted by giving him pointless redecorating projects -- the gold crap all over the White House, for example, and that Ballroom, and the Arch de Trump.
Now he's trying to get the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial painted blue. So he gave out a $7 million no-bid contract to a buddy's company that had never worked on pool painting before. What could go wrong?

Then Trump drove his motorcade on it for a press conference.

Heather Cox Richardson writes:
...The contract is for more than triple the $1.8 million Trump promised, and officials say the repairs will last for seven to ten years, rather than the 50 years Trump claimed. Even that might be generous: One expert warned that the motorcade the president took onto the pool yesterday to review the project was heavy enough to have sprung the newly-repaired joints between the concrete slabs that make up the pool bed.

The reflecting pool will be brown with algae & goose turds before the end of July. The reflection has always come from the sky bouncing off the top of the water. The bottom is rarely visible. Painting it blue, or pink for that matter, won't do a thing. I'm an on & off DC area resident since '72.

Isn't it Ironic?

the way Republicans brag about being the party of dismantling racism in the 1800s is like me bragging about how Yankees have 27 rings. OK if you knew how to do that 100 years ago isn't it even more embarrassing that you don't do it anymore

It's not just Trump - everyone around him is utterly incompetent.
I suspect Marco Rubio never thought about a gift for the Pope until he was leaving the State Department on his way to the plane, then sent an aide into a gift shop to find something quick:

Some academic laughs
I know we are all concerned about AI slop, but there used to be some pretty sloppy writing in real life, too:

I ordered a pastrami sandwich and a pickle. When the delivery got to my hotel, the bag only contained a pickle. They'd run out of pastrami and instead of calling me, they just refunded my sandwich as they thought Id still want the pickle. I was still charged the delivery fee. Sometimes I wonder how so many people could be convinced to vote against their own best interests. And then I get charged $14 for one pickle by someone who thinks they're doing the right thing, and it all makes sense.

Carney Hat Trick - posts about our Prime Minister
View on Threads

When they met on the sidelines at Armenia, Carney and Spanish PM Pedro SΓ‘nchez exchanged world cup jerseys

This was well said:

PM Carney: "Those whose politics is to destroy, to demolish, dismantle, they're not going to change their instincts. This is, in many respects, this is their moment. We can't match them by being timid imitations of them. We can't answer them by pining for an old order that's not going to return ... it can only be answered by positive action, by building that which comes next."

I am increasingly tired by being told why I voted for Mark Carney. I did not vote for him to get a deal from the Trump administration, I voted for him to deal with the Trump administration. The gulf between the two is quite large.
