Its all in how you look at it

A story from Kurt Vonnegut: When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, “No I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes.” And he said, “Wow. That’s amazing!” I replied, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at any of them.” And then he said something that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: “I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.” And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.

 About mosquitos
View on Threads
This is true, by the way. The first time I was visiting in Vancouver, as a teenager, I remember seeing my first Mayfly - it looks like a 2" mosquito - and I was stunned to be told they don't bite and that there are no mosquitos on the BC coast either. Which is mostly true but not entirely. And nobody mentioned the wolf spiders...
So Alberta doesn't have rats, but mosquitos are a different story

Mamdani is the world's best mayor

L O L — “Violating dress code” is the new Tan Suit scandal. In fact it’s actually far worse because they legit have literally nothing on him. I’m surprised they didn’t say “Mamdani fails to walk on water, proving he’s not actually Jesus.”😅

World Cup Stories
We're getting to the Round of 32 so everything is more serious - its knockout now.
Canada is playing South Africa on Sunday and I think thousands of Canadians will be going to the game - apparently there are lots of extra tickets because South Korea isn't playing there after all.
Personally, I will give a dispensation to anyone travelling to the US now to watch our Canadian team.
Here's an interesting prediction from Meta AI

Penalty kicks? OMG My heart won't be able to take that suspense!

on top of the US government conspiring against the team, and FIFA's bad format, and the team being literally the last team out of the knockout rounds .... .... .... they were like one combined foot from winning two games and finishing on top of their group

Here's the group stage wrapup. Africa had 10 teams in the tournament, and 9 made it through! Incredible performance.
