This all happened just on Wednesday, for heaven's sake! How much more can we take? We're cracking up:
We are firmly in “by any means necessary” territory at this point.

Yeah, that'll happen for sure...LOL -- The White House pool is boycotting Trump, but Real America's Voice is trying to fill in the gap. Unfortunately they haven't yet figured out how microphones work so Trump is still yelling into the void.

Around midnight, a judge ruled that CNN, MSNOW and Politico should get their press access back. I wonder if Trump will appeal?LMAO -- White House official Peter Navarro calls on Trump administration to boycott Fox News, citing the network's firing of Maria Bartiromo

Panicking now about the high price of dieselThere’s no way in hell Trump should be allowed to slap his name on anything else, let alone Ford’s Theatre. But I have to admit, there’s something darkly hilarious about him adding his name to the place where an American president was assassinated. The irony practically writes itself.

The foul treatment of immigrants is finally getting publicized
to be clear, the admin is alleged to have deported AT LEAST 25,447 individuals TO COUNTRIES THAT ARE NOT THEIR OWN with, evidently, ZERO PROTECTIONS. this is a scandal and crime of historic proportions.

In an interview with The New York Times published Wednesday, Carney described the prospect of an invasion as an “extreme tail risk,” but that it would be “irresponsible” not to prepare.

But he also said lots of other things [gift link]PM Carney interviewed in New York Times is asked if Canada has prepped for military threat: “You have a responsibility in these roles to look at extreme tail risk. That’s just risk management. It would be irresponsible not to prepare." And they wonder why we don't buy their booze.

...In a wide-ranging interview... Mr. Carney described in meticulous detail how he was systematically reducing Canada’s reliance on the United States for key techy — from space satellites to fighter jets — in an effort to make his country far less vulnerable to American threats. He outlined a plan to diversify Canada’s relationships and suppliers, and said that even with a different future president “we will be a better partner for the U.S. because of what we are doing.”...Moving on
Good news about the Prince Rupert portI've officially made it - getting a shout out in the latest Iran Lego video trolling of Trump. As we work to reduce our reliance on the U.S. and diversify trade, the Port of Prince Rupert is helping connect B.C. to new global markets every day. The Canada-B.C. Cooperative Prosperity Agreement is unlocking the projects needed to drive that growth.

Today's Fuck Around and Find Out moment - a week ago, a group of Michigan tourists were flying to Halifax and they thought it would be so very very funny to post a photo on Facebook of them wearing "Lake America" shirts, just to show those stupid Canucks who's really in charge now. Well, almost immediately, their photos were posted all over Halifax, social media was ripping them to pieces, and finally they blamed AI for the photo. Too late!PM Carney: "Next spring, we will welcome the world to Halifax for the Our Ocean Conference. Canada's Special Envoy is here. Finally, on a side note, I guess Wednesday was supposed to be Bluebird of Happiness Day. But it wasn't, for me.
A tough day for Toronto 😔 Last season’s AL pennant winners are out of postseason contention after a 4-2 loss in Game 1 of the doubleheader in Baltimore.

His timing is so bad. Had he made this charge a few years ago, it might have had a tiny core of truth: Every visiting 'student' got an automatic work visa. Then two years ago, Jr's gov't finally woke up when the housing/rent situation got way out of hand and they started to send them home. (The idiot Libs had let Harper's wage-suppression-temp-worker system, metastasize.)
Unfortunately many real students have been discouraged or simply kept out and the private-college and ESL industry is devastated. A long time player ILAC declared bankruptcy just last week. On the other hand rents and housing prices are falling.
I am pro immigration and I believe that I am not alone. However, we must build housing first and not use the temp-worker system to suppress wages.
Parting thought:
One country uses fascist goon patrols to terrorize and jail their population and do illegal deportations while their direct neighbour fixes their immigrant problem by politely asking them to leave.
"Around midnight, a judge ruled that CNN, MSNOW and Politico should get their press access back. I wonder if Trump will appeal?"
why bother with an appeal?
"CNN, MS NOW and Politico seek emergency hearing, saying White House is defying order to lift ban"
Yes I'm pro-immigration too. The problem with Trudeau's sudden changes was its impact across the country, when the problem was mainly in Doug Ford's Toronto, as I saw it.
The whole situation with foreign students has been a heavy blow to post-secondary education. This goes back to when Chretien was PM with Paul Martin as finance minister doing the dirty work. Martin's huge cuts in transfer payments to provinces led to major cuts to education (and health care, and stuff). Universities mostly compensated by working hard to attract foreign students who paid through the nose. This is not a strategy I really like, but it was kind of working. So then when suddenly a lot of those students went poof!, it hit university budgets hard. At mine, we've had cuts, a hiring freeze has been going for more than a year and so on. They've also offered some early retirement packages, which a number of key people took up, and of course hiring freeze, the whole point is they're not being replaced.
Now if only BC had an NDP government who would tax the rich to get funds for education and health care . . . hmmm . . .
The use of foreign students to goose university budgets is common to many countries with neoliberal governments. With tax cuts come the inevitable cuts in government spending. The universities are expected to continue on regardless.
Enter the foreign student as a cash cow. The professional facilities, where the tuitions are highest and the profit margins the largest, are magnets for foreign students. These students displace a share of domestic students, who often become foreign students themselves, usually at great cost financed through bank loans. And around it goes, as the neoliberal sausage gets made. In the end, even professionals can't get ahead and become wage slaves to their bank loans.
Now that the foreign student numbers have been cut, will domestic students benefit? Not necessarily. In some cases, the universities simply shift foreign student fees onto out-of-province students. This is already happening to veterinary students, who have only five schools in all of Canada. A friend's son, faced with foreign student fees in either PEI or Australia, chose Australia, figuring if he's going to pay foreign student fees, he may as well get the experience.
