Today's News: a random roundup -- Carney's press conference; Smith's carpet; Poilievre's seat; and First Nations nix Wexit

Basically, it seems we are back to politics-as-normal now -- tonight I have just a random assortment of political news and views tonight, without anything really dominating the headlines. Yet.

First, we got some good news today that the King is coming! All in all, a great press conference today from Carney:

🧡I remember people saying that as a mere ex-central banker, Mark Carney would be lost in the world of politics. At his press conference today, he showed in fact how valuable that experience will be, answering all questions adroitly and professionally, giving some hints away but never too much. And…

he treated every journalist with respect and courtesy, didn’t chomp a single apple, or attack any media organisation as an entity. And when’s the last time a Prime Minister got a whole room full of journalists laughing along with him? We have an adult gentleman in charge now, folks. 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

Next, isn't it great to see that Danielle Smith really understands Alberta priorities?

For Danielle Smith, new carpet in her office is more important than orthopedic surgery for thousands of Albertans. #ableg #abpoli

Speaking of Alberta, it looks like Poilievre finally figured out how to worm his way back into Parliament:

Is anyone the least bit surprised? I think these opinions are shared by millions now: Alberta might want to give some thought to this point, too:

And hey, the chatter in Alberta and Saskatchewan about Wexit and having a vote to leave isn't going to get very far:

“Treaty lands were never surrendered, sold or ceded to the provincial government & definitely cannot be separated from the Crown without free, prior & informed consent of all Treaty First Nations.” Chief Gilbert Okemow & Peerless Trout First Nation Council #abpoli #cdnpoli

We live on treaty land. The Supreme Court of Canada said in the Quebec Secession Reference that Indigenous nations have to be a party to any discussion on future sovereignty questions. This can't be dismissed the way Smith does here.

To those wondering, no Moe does not have the authority to separate SK from Canada. SK is founded on treaty lands: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10. It would not exist without those treaties. The relationship of Indigenous peoples to the Crown pre-dates and supercedes Saskatchewan's existence. #skpoli

Finally, I thought these were beautiful:

I hope we deserve this beautiful piece by Journalist Victor Kravchuk, writing from the Ukraine: #cdnpolitics #canadasky
