So much for Poilievre regaining anyone's respect now:
There are already lies going around about Carney's election and Poilievre's loss:Inspiring! Pierre Poilievre just released his new campaign slogan for Battle River-Crowfoot and it is truly moving! One word, but it perfectly encapsulates voters who support a leader who has to manufacture an election after losing the last one. #Pierre4PM #abpoli

The deep fakes have started already:In case you were wondering how malevolent, toxic, cynical and dangerous the Conservatives were, are, and intend to be. This isn’t politics as usual. It’s a carbon copy of MAGA’s successful undermining of liberal democracy. Whoever approved that email is every Canadian’s enemy. #CdnPoli

Let's laugh at Alberta separatists! And so it begins. Where is this from and who is propagating it? We need an immediate CSIS investigation. This is a national security risk. vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/05/09/m... #Cdnpoli

Smith's separation referendum idea isn't winning any popularity contests:
Angus Reid is reporting on the separatist intentions in Alberta. While 36% definitely or lean to voting to leave, that is almost entirely within the provincial conservative party (UCP) led by Danielle Smith where 65% definitely/lean toward leaving. She is leading a separatist party. #cdnpoli

I honestly can't wait until we get to read the dueling separatist manifestos from the People's Front of Alberta and the Albertan People's Front.

This is extremely relevant. Montreal and Quebec lost head offices, businesses and skilled jobs. Not because they left but because they threatened to. #cdnpoli #abpoli #ableg

Let's find out about Pope Leo
Here is a fascinating thread about the 13 Popes named Leo. Here are the most significant ones:
✨ Leo I (Leo the Great) - 440–461
— Mambo Italiano (@mamboitaliano__) May 8, 2025
One of the greatest popes in history
Stopped Attila in 452, convincing him not to sack Rome
Strengthened papal authority, affirming the primacy of the bishop of Rome (Petrine Primacy)
Fought heresies and wrote the “Tome to Flavian” pic.twitter.com/EsC30pUf9N
✨ Leo IX – 1049–1054
— Mambo Italiano (@mamboitaliano__) May 8, 2025
Great reformer warrior pope
Initiated the Gregorian Reform (fight against simony and clerical concubinage)
During his pontificate occurred the Great Schism of the East (1054) pic.twitter.com/xefwv6blf2
✨ Curiosities about the Popes named Leo
— Mambo Italiano (@mamboitaliano__) May 8, 2025
✨ Leo I, IX and XIII are considered the most important
✨ Leo X is famous for the indulgence scandal that triggered Luther pic.twitter.com/mZeBTFZHwQ
And here's more about PopeThe name a pope chooses reveals the spirit, direction, and vision of his pontificate
— Mambo Italiano (@mamboitaliano__) May 8, 2025
And it is precisely in his predecessors that we can glimpse the orientation of the new pope
And as for us — we really love the name Leo XIV ✨ pic.twitter.com/z5Re6xDzRA
Strangely, I am not noticing a lot of outcry from the “you can’t just change your name” crowd that they’re just going to call Pope Leo by his birth name, nor any sign that they won’t respect His Holiness’ new pronouns, Your Holiness/His Holiness.

Pretty funny how everyone is suddenly ok with respecting a persons name change. Almost as if it’s actually super easy to remember to call someone ‘Leo’ instead of ‘Robert’. π #transrights #pope

Did the Pope get his parents permission to change his name? -Scott Moe

I didn’t give a wit about new pope coverage, but the first American pope being a man with Black ancestry born in Chicago by way of New Orleans by way of Haiti. Names his self after the pope who condemned slavery? In the Trump era? Oh, baebae, I am HERE for it. www.wwltv.com/article/news...

I think it's rather fitting and beautiful that Pope Leo XIV is confirmed as a White Sox fan. A true advocate for the downtrodden.

These cartoons made me laugh too:Pope Leo XIV being a White Sox fan is an example faith as belief without evidence.

The observation that PP is painting himself into a corner by running in Alberta is a good one. One of the big knocks against the Cons has always been that they're just the old Alberta-grievance Reform party with a new logo. PP never was and never will be a national leader, and now he'll be stuck defending Make Alberta Great Again separatists.
Also, I love the quips comparing gender identity pronoun- and name-change initiation rituals to the absurd papal ones. But how is it that popes spend their days in fancy dresses and Prada pumps yet never turn into women? This may sound crazy, but could it be that wearing dresses doesn't turn men into women, just like wearing a boyfriend's clothes doesn’t turn women into men?
Almost there, cap.
It's what you feel you are inside yourself that decides your gender, not the clothes you wear
