Susan Delacourt / Toronto StarIf Carney went to the United Nations to show the world that Canada and the U.S. have become sharply different countries, he can probably declare it mission accomplished. There's plenty of vivid examples of the two countries on diverging paths. #Opinion

Mark Carney put Canada on a clear path away from Trump’s America at the UNDean Blundell
Mark Carney is no doubt aware that when he uses the word “rupture” about Canada-U.S. relations, it grates on the nerves of some in Donald Trump’s circle.
So it was interesting to see the prime minister doubling down on the rupture language in his numerous appearances at the United Nations this week. Now Carney is even using it to say how Canada will use the disruption with the U.S. to its advantage.
“In every moment where there’s a crack, where there’s a rupture, there is possibility,” Carney said at a news conference in New York on Tuesday evening
Where Trump veered off in all directions on Tuesday, Carney delivered a lot of bullet points....
• Canada is recognizing Palestine as a state. The United States, most assuredly, is not.
• The Canadian government believes in climate change. Trump told the UN on Tuesday it was a hoax. “The carbon footprint is a hoax made up by people with evil intentions and they’re heading down a path of total destruction,” Trump said.
Here, on the other hand, was Carney when asked later about those remarks. “Yes, there is climate change, and there’s an aspect of competitiveness involved in exporting our goods around the world, and that is about reducing carbon.”
• Canada believes in a multilateral trading system, Carney said repeatedly throughout the day, and is embarking optimistically on building new relationships beyond the U.S. Canada is looking a lot to Europe for collaboration, on everything from trade to the Palestine-state declaration....
BREAKING: Mark Carney Triggers A Geopolitical Earthquake in NY. "This Is Not a Transition. It’s a Rupture. And Canada Is Ready."
Mark Carney just redrew our map of the world—pro‑Canada, pro‑democracy, and unapologetically independent from Trump’s chaos.
You could feel the hinge of history click yesterday.
In New York, Prime Minister Mark Carney walked into the Council on Foreign Relations before heading to the UN and did what grown‑up countries do in dangerous times: he told the truth, set the course, and invited serious partners to come with us.
“This is not a transition. This is a rupture.”
Not a tweak. A rupture—a clear break from the idea that Canada’s prosperity and security must orbit a volatile White House that can flip policy on Truth Social before breakfast. A rupture means we stop pretending the old assumptions will magically come back while Donald Trump is around. The relationship isn’t “over,” but it is broken—and Canada is moving, fast, to build strength at home and diversify abroad with allies who respect our sovereignty, the rule of law, and democracy. Carney even thanks Trump (sideways) for being useless, forcing us into a position of being more self-reliant and less interested in doing business with a psychopath who wants to punish/invade us for being their biggest ally and trade partner in the world.
That’s leadership. That’s Canada....
After Trump's gong show at the UN it was good to see PM Carney invoking Leonard Cohen. "In every moment where there's a crack, where there's a rupture, there is possibility — and it's our responsibility, it's our opportunity as Canada in this moment to find it." www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8-B...

As much as Mr Sourpuss Poilievre tries to frame it differently, Carney has gotten a LOT done, & undoubtedly is getting much more in place. #CanadaStrong π¨π¦✊
