The dense forests around Kyiv made it much easier for defenders to ambush Russian military columns with anti-tank missile systems and quickly disappear.

In a few weeks, the leaves will be back on bushes and trees, making it even harder for the Russians to spot the defenders. pic.twitter.com/tCCF6lZFNa

Thinking about how this will end:Irpin was liberated from Russian control by Ukrainian forces on March 28, but remains disconnected from electricity and water due to shelling by Russian forces.

Russia wants Ukraine to pay a price for Russia ending its invasion. But the invasion is coming apart anyway. There's surely some price that Ukraine will pay to speed the ending. But Russia had better discount that price much deeper - or it will soon have nothing to sell at all.

2) Ukraine welcomed into the European Union.
3) Crushing super-multilateral anti-Russian sanctions that will require years to unwind if even one EU country objects. (Hello, Poland.)
4) New energy contracts that bypass Russia.
8) Big rearmament programs in EU, especially Germany.

17) Russian gold holdings very difficult to sell
But of course they won't take the L. They will keep fighting, hoping to sustain the terror of Russian might and power - until either that power utterly collapses or they back themselves into threatening nuclear war unless somebody else rescues them from self-wrought catastrophe

Russian blitzkrieg plans are failed, but it’s still a terrible war that brings thousands of victims and leaves entire cities destroyed https://t.co/6B7ttKjXoL
Getting philosophical about war:⚡️UN creates commission to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

The independent panel will look into all accusations of rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law “in the context of the aggression against Ukraine by the Russian Federation,” the UN said
Finally, Clausewitz states in Chapter 3 ("On Military Genius"), that "war is the realm of chance."

He goes on to say that "no other human activity gives it greater scope ...chance makes everything more uncertain and interfere with the whole course of events." 7/
In other news, we watched the Frontline documentary The Plot To Overturn The Election, about how millions of people in the United States believe Trump won re-election and Biden stole the election -- they are utterly and completely delusional, and they are going to get themselves elected to offices all across the USA in just eight months. Republicans have gone crazy and they're taking the country with them. Abortion is likely going to be criminalized by the Supreme Court this summer, and next they'll be starting on civil rights and gay rights:Again, one of those will persevere. I know the one I'm betting on, and it's the individual with the developed character, defending his people and his nation.

And finally, nobody can figure out why Canadian Conservatives are so entranced with bitcoins:It is a tangled web which extends well beyond our borders. It might possibly be the most far-reaching, long-game psy op in history. And all the roads appear to lead back to Putin and Russia.
