Today's News: Carney's CNN interview, Poilievre's parade bust, Trump's F-bomb

Carney:

Amanpour calls Carney "the Trump whisperer". Really good, substantive interview. #cdnpoli youtu.be/l8gWyt4wZjc?...

I'm seeing more online progressives saying "Fuck Carney" now because....I don't really know why exactly...
I guess they think some of his legislation isn't perfect but Trudeau's wasn't either.
And some of Carney's recent statements about Trump and Netanyahu haven't been as critical as they would have liked. Yeah, I know.  For example, he didn't use the CNN interview to bash anyone.
But one thing to remember about Carney is this: he demands respect. And he gives respect too -- he respects the offices of Prime Ministers and Presidents regardless of whether he dislikes the person in it or disagrees with what they are doing. You could see that respect in the CNN interview too, where he gives the Trump administration the benefit of the doubt and doesn't take pointless cheap shots.
Of course, like every other leader now, Carney also knows the only way to deal with Trump is to treat him like the 5-year-old son of your new boss — give him treats and bouncy castles and make him think you are just delighted to play with him.
Basically, I agree with The Oakleafs:

Poilievre:

All hat(e) no cattle.

An interesting column the other day discussing what Poilievre is going to be dealing with in his new riding of Battle River-Crowfoot. I know the conventional wisdom is that it's the safest Conservative riding in Canada, but Poilievre can't afford to take his voters for granted.

In his new riding, Pierre Poilievre will be stuck between a rock and a separatist place
...Though Mr. Poilievre indeed grew up in Alberta, he has spent his adult life wearing a suit in Ottawa, and not a cowboy hat on his family’s farm like Mr. Kurek. That invariably makes him seem like an Ottawa transplant lecturing Albertans on their priorities, rather than an insider discussing sovereignty among friends. It also doesn’t help that Mr. Poilievre’s representation of the people of Battle River-Crowfoot has been described, both by Mr. Kurek and Mr. Poilievre, as “temporary.” If he’s not careful, the Conservative Leader could leave the impression that he is simply using his prospective constituents as a means to an end.
But Mr. Poilievre’s representation of the riding also presents an opportunity to meaningfully quell separatist sentiments – that is, if he does the work on the ground and spends meaningful time in his community. (Mr. Poilievre’s lack of face time in Carleton is one of the reasons locals cited for shifting their support to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy.) Battle River-Crowfoot will (likely) soon be represented by one of the loudest and most influential political voices in Canada: someone who can channel their frustrations and echo them to a national audience. Indeed, one of Mr. Poilievre’s foremost strengths is mirroring the angst of those he represents, whether on the topic of housing, cost of living, or the carbon tax. That process alone may provide a release valve for the pressure that, until now, had nowhere to go except toward the separatist movement.

Oh look. It’s Poilievre in a parade in Alberta. Crowd estimates 14-15 people. If the Conservative Oarty of Canada really was wanting to help Canadians save money, they’d do a leadership review before his byelection. Once again #NeverPoilievre

Trump:

Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States is throwing a tantrum again because other countries are just doing things as they are told. I'm sure Norway will give him the Nobel Peace Prize the moment they hear this clip for being such a nimble negotiator and diplomat.

Donald Trump wanting a Nobel Peace Prize is like Jeffrey Dahmer wanting a Vegetarian of the Year award.

And was there any point to it anyway?

I'm so surprised. Narrator: He is not surprised.
