Today's News: Just some updates on the Sask wildfires and on the ICE protests, plus saying goodbye to Brian Wilson

First, yes I feel this way too:

Just when my frenzied mind feels that it’s about to explode from the barrage of dystopian news, some well-balanced optimist posts a video clip of a chipper goofball dog bouncily trotting along a sun-lit path in happy abandon, and I am momentarily restored to well-being.

Update on the Sask wildfires:
Good news that rain in the last few days has helped crews contain the Saskatchewan fires - there are still 23 burning. And most of the evacuees from the Pelican Narrows and the La Ronge area are either going back now or have been cleared to return later this week. About 7,000 people will be allowed to return home Thursday after the lifting of a wildfire evacuation order Tuesday.
And in spite of this good news, Premier Scott Moe still manages to make himself look like a cheapskate, and an inept one at that.
On Tuesday, the Sask Ombudsman Sharon Pratchler held a news conference to describe how badly the province has failed the thousands of wildfire refugees -- she said her office has heard from people who are waiting days for answers about food and shelter while some are even forced to sleep in their cars, and the aid money being given to evacuees isn’t retroactive to the day they were forced out of their homes. “These are basic human needs and the province is responsible for providing for them without any further delay,” said Pratchler. So then Moe finally got his act together, sort of:

Here's another disappointing decision by Scott Moe:

Just because Alberta and Saskatchewan are putting US liquor on the shelves doesn't mean that you have to buy it. #USboycott #abpoli #saskpoli #cdnpoli

Update on the ICE protests:

Actually, as often seems to happen with anything the Trump administration does, it is rapidly descending into farce.

There's all the talk on Fox News and in Washington about how "Los Angeles is burning" and the city is being destroyed and its really all just laughable. See if you can actually find the red dot on this map:

But overall, the ICE raids across the States are just getting really pathetic, aren't they. Pathetic, and sad:

Nobody still believes ICE is going after violent criminals… right? 📌 On Tuesday, ICE agents raided a massive meatpacking plant in Omaha, Nebraska—rounding up dozens of suspected undocumented workers. The largest worksite immigration sweep in the state under Trump’s second term. This is about fear.

Saying goodbye to Brian Wilson

The youngs may not appreciate Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson the way I do and the others of my generation. Of course, you could say the Beach Boys did some bubble-gum pop over the years. But Brian Wilson's musical genius gave depth and meaning to much of their work, and their unique sound was the music of my youth.
I'm seeing tributes all over tonight, to mark Wilson's death: Here's an interesting clip of Wilson talking music with Sir George Martin, the man who produced many of The Beatles' best records:

Let's not forget the Canadian connection: the song Lying in Bed Just Like Brian Wilson. Written by the Barenaked Ladies' Steven Page, the song captures both musicians struggles with mental illness. Wilson liked the song so much that he recorded his own version and visited the Barenaked Ladies in a recording studio, which Page called a surreal experience.

I grew up on the Beach Boys' music. Brian's passing feels personal, the same way I felt when Carl died.
