Tonight's photo: the children's play area at Warsaw's Museum of Modern Art. The Museum has transformed itself to aid Ukrainian refugees
This isn't a good sign:Rats. I just wrote in a briefing how coordination issues between Southern and Western MD helped the Ukrainians.

But also, this:The Pentagon now estimates more than 40 Russian BTGs are positioned in or near the Donbas region. The estimate was "more than 30" on Wednesday, meaning up to 10,000 more troops have arrived in recent days.

A month ago, at the end of February, I wrote that Ukraine had to find a way to hold on in Kyiv until more arms could arrive from the US and other countries. Now, I feel that way again -- that once again, Ukraine has to find a way to hold on in the Donbas until more arms can arrive.Russia has lost between 15-20% of the combat power it originally had arrayed against Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion, according to the official.

A really interesting story in Esquire about the end of the battle of Kyiv and how one Ukrainian unit drove out some Russians by attacking their columns strung out on roads with light tactics. https://t.co/4RAob6mxHF

The only way this ends in the 'foreseeable future' is if Russia declares victory and withdraws. Cant see Ukraine conceding much in negotiations at this point. https://t.co/Kb6cWjDq29

The U.S. has trained a small number of Ukrainian soldiers to use Switchblade unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the “kamikaze” tactical drones sent to the war-ravaged country as part of a military assistance package, according to a Pentagon official. https://t.co/VavUFLHFXr

Markos has a fascinating article today about what is going on in Mariupol -- where Russians keep saying they have surrounded Ukrainian forces and are just mopping up, but they've been saying that for a month and it ain't happening. One of the tweets above shows a Mariupol defender in action. Here's some of what Markos wrote:An interesting take from @andymilburn8, an experienced combat veteran (and Marine) currently in Ukraine. https://t.co/HaDyReu9bG

... it looks like Ukraine had found a hole in Russia’s coverage of the city, and then used it for regular resupply and medical evacuation......there are the persistent rumors of tunnels/catacombs under the city itself........as of now, Russia still has a long way to go to take the city...In a city hellscape littered with infinite hiding locations, Ukrainian forces can operate an indefinite guerrilla campaign to continue pinning down Russian forces, preventing them from being redeployed elsewhere. If Russia doesn’t have the forces in the city to prevent loud-ass helicopters from making regular supply runs, what makes anyone think they can actually prevent several thousand motivated defenders from continuing to wreak havoc?
Finally, I thought this was pretty funny:Why is this buried in indigenous CBC? It’s pertinent to national coverage.

Slowly but surely, the Indian Act is becoming obsolete.
Included in each modern treaty, a clause ensuring land can not be sold to private investors. The land is the community’s in perpetuity. https://t.co/suKLYVvEX1
The comments are terrific, too -- I guess this song was used a lot in the 80s and 90s to teach history in public schools. In third grade for school I had to learn all the words to “We Didn’t Start The Fire” and to this day I know the names of a lot of things that happened but not a single fact about any of them.
